Question 1993 Ford Ranger 4x4 electronic shift problem

I am having problems with getting the transfer case to go into 4wd low or high. I press the 4x4 high button on the dash-the light never comes on-but I do hear the control module behind the seat clicking once but in normal operation I hear it click multiple times before the 4x4 dash light comes on and 4wd is engaged. The module is p/n F17B-7E453-AA and it is made by UNITED TECHNOLOGIES AUTOMOTIVE. Could ths be the problem and is there a legit way to test and verify before rushing out to buy a repalcement.

I'm not sure on the specifics of your truck however, you should be able to take the Transfer Case shift motor off the transfer case and look to see if it turns, I'm guessing on the ranger it would be on the back of the t-case, towards the rear of the vehicle. It will look kind of like a windshield wiper motor and will have a short wire harness with a plug. That should give you a idea where to start or a way to test it.
