Loud buzzing, vibration. Is it tranny problem?

1990 Cougar, V6, auto, 175000mi, tranny rebuild at around 110-120000 . When accelerate, a pretty loud buzzing and vibration heard on driver's side when tranny is on the verge of switching gears or at least it seems so. Happens at sertain speeds (MPH points) either on the streets or highways. It runs fine aside from the noise but it repeats every time when tranny is uploading. Why is it heard only on the left side?
Thanks for your advice.

If the car seems to be shifting and running fine other than the noise then it may be as simple as a loose heat shield on your exhaust or something. Especially considering the mileage. Lots of corrosion occurs under there after a while.

It sounds like it is happening when your engine is revving at its highest, right before shifts. This coincidentally is also when your car will experience most of its vibration thus shaking whatever is loose.

I also would check the heat shields.
