Windshield repair
Our windshield got hit hard by a good-size rock on the freeway yesterday, leaving a small "gouge". Not a crack, but a very noticeable, and annoying, chink in the glass. I took it to a local auto glass repair company assuming that they could simply "buff it out" and make it less obvious, but they sort of chuckled at me and said that there was nothing that they could do for something so small. I'm amazed that they couldn't/wouldn't be able to just buff it down somehow, and am wondering if anyone knows if there isn't some method to be able to do so, given the right tools, etc.
Any insight or info would be greatly appreciated. I'm in San Diego if anyone knows of a good auto glass repair shop. Thanks in advance-

If you are worrying about cracking over time, there is a quick repair kit called "Clear Star". You can get it from Wal-Mark or auto parts store. I had similar case like yours about 10 years back. In addition, it had a little very minor cracking and I used this kit to create more bounding. You will still see the dent, but a little (not much) less appearing after repairing it. With this kind of problem, there is nothing much you can do. This kit costs about $7-$10 and it is worth a try before thinking about getting a new one. Good Luck!

There are services that will come out to your car (work or home) and repair small nicks. A guy at work had it done, and you could not even tell there was ever damage to the windshield.
I have no idea what they charge, or how long these repairs last, but it might be something to check out.
Good luck
