My wife has a 91 Subaru Legacy. The car has a slight jerking problem that you can feel when going down the road. I have replaced plugs & wires, put on a new air filter, used Lucas gas treatment.

I am wondering if it may be something with the transmission. Is so, can a transmission be checked to find out if there are any problems, or do you wait till it goes out. Any suggestions, anyone?

At the first hint of transmission problems, pull trouble codes to see if there are any, then fix them. Transmissions get input from engine sensors, vacuum, etc. If the engine is having a problem, it may be causing a transmission problem (sympathy sickness). To save cost for DIY'ers like yourself, the best thing you can do is to pull codes.
