Question 1995 Escort Heater Core

I have a 95 ford escort. I am having problems taking the casing that holds the heater core out. I have unattached the 3 mounting nuts, removed the defroster duct but it does not want to come loose. The casing is loose but will not come out as the manual suggests. It feels like I have to move it up and pull forwards but I can not seem to do that. It feels like something is still blocking it and holding it in place. Any tips? Or anything at all.

That's how you do it on almost any Escort except 1991-1996, which were designed by Mazda. These Mazda Escort require removal of the entire dash to get to the heater core (Japanese tradition to make things unrepairable).
