mustang gas gauge

mustang gas gauge

i have a 67 mustang the fuel gauge dont work. when i hook a test light to it , the test light flashes on & off ,but the gauge works correctly then. thats w/ the clip of the test light grounded and the probe to the yellow line side of the gauge. Can anyone tell me what gives? thanx

If I am understanding you correctly and the gauge works when you probe the yellow wire of the guage and ground it, then you are not getting a good ground on your gauge, a common problem with older cars because of the corrosion.

Do the same at the fuel tank, if results are the same it's a bad sender (use the test light clip grounded to the tank)

If the result isn't the same move the test light ground to the chassis, if results are same this would condemm the tank ground.

If the result isn't the same check the wire from the gauge to the tank for continunity.
