flywheel removal

hi everyone, what is the smoothest (best) way to get the flywheel off a 1980 chevy 3/4 ton pickup, 350 engine, turbo 400 trans, ? (it`s too far damaged, needs new one). are there aftermarket starters with sprockets that work for worn out flywheels ?
thanks in advance for your input

no starters like you're wishing for. sorry,,, you need to pull the trans, unbolt the converter, and remove the flywheel ( flexplate) just get a new one and rerverse the procedure. do however be cautious when installing the converter. try to get some local help on that. it involves some "feel" to determine when it is on the input shaft of the trans correctly. good luck

To save you some time and agony, go buy a couple of long starter bolts.
Unbolt your torque convertor from the flywheel. Unbolt the trans from the engine. Take the 2 long starter bolts you bought and screw them in the lower bolt holes in the trans, into the engine. Unbolt and remove your drive shaft and trans mount. Now, you can slide the trans back far enough to get a wrench up in there to remove the flywheel bolts. Replace the flywheel and reverse the proceedure. But, if you have a 2 wheel drive, it is not that big of a job to remove the trans. I use this proceedure whenever I can to do flywheel jobs, it saves alot of time.
