Jeep Wrangler A/C install
Ok people I need some serious help.
I have recently purchased a 1989 Jeep Wrangler YJ. It's in pretty good shape My buddy's girl can't say anything about his Jeep except how they got stuck in traffic and roasted to death on the way to the beach.
So I get online and purchase an air-conditioning unit for the Wrangler off of e-bay.
Now I got a pretty good deal on it but I have no idea how this thing is supposed to be wired up. I can't for the life of me, find any wiring diagrams for this ac unit on line. And the Dude that sold it to me just pulled it out of a junker. I got everything... the compressor, the dryer, the evaporator, the heat and air control out of the dash, the cables, everything.
Here's the skinny on the jeep and the ac unit.
89 YJ 258 4.2L (2bbl) Automatic Tranny.
AC unit is not the aftermarket type with the easy three wire hook up.
This is the style that actually came in the late 80's style YJs from factory.
Anybody got any idea where to find diagrams or atleast someone to tell me where all of these wire hook up? I can send pictures or give wire color codes or what ever. Help!

a/c on jeep
Try to do some research online or buy the haines handbook/cd rom for your jeep see if that helps.
Not an easy job i.m.o. too much stuff involved you have to install the a/c panel in front of your radiator, make sure you have the mounts for the a/c compressor, belt options depending if you use a serpentine belt or multiple belts.Check out your carb/fuel injenction options as to how to increase iddle rpm's when a/c engaged, make sure your radiator will handle the extra heat ( a/c equipped vehicles have bigger rads ) etc.
Not intended as professional advice.

I think the Haynes manual includes complete wiring schematics for the vehicle. Just buy the book for the car that the unit came from and you won't get any better information than that.

Here's the weird part. The compressor, condensor, etc. were already installed.
The only thing missing from the set up was the blower unit in the cab. The only part I have to wire up is the blower unit. The rest is already done. The hoses coming off of the compressor were already sticking through the firewall when I bought the jeep. It looks like the ac was arleady installed at one time that is how I know I bought the right parts because they are from a stock install pulled from another jeep. I have the hayes manual but reading the wiring diagram is like read greek. None of the color coeds match up and if you don't know where the wire came off, it's hard to trace it on the diagram.
Any other ideas? Would I be beer off taking this to a dealer?
Thanks

Ac
Well, where to begin. The blower moter for the ac unit is the only thing I need to install. It the blower is inside a cowling of its own. It as vents in it to direct the air and that unit is where the coolant lines (coming off of the compressor through the firewall) connect to. The wires that are puzzling me are the ones connected to the unit to be installed. From what I can tell the harness on the ac unit use the lines that connect to the fan hi/low switch and kinda do a piggy back relay through the unit. So when you turn the heater completely off (all the wqay to the left) the face plate (that came with the unit) says AC instead of off. So when the heater is off the ac can still be turn on and controlled with the hi/low switch.
The Compressor is wired up. The wires off of it go into a wire set that goes through the fire wall. I haven't traced those yet. I don't however see any wires available for me to hook up to it under the dash.
