Dodge Caravan Gas Door
#1
Recently, I accidently snapped off the plastic gas door of my 1997 Dodge Caravan. The van has two side entry doors. I have a replacement gas door from a 1998 van w/o the two side entry doors. In trying to take the broken gas door out, I noticed there is a rod running from the gas door mechanism through the wheel well into the side entry door locking mechanism. It apperas to be a safety mechanism to prevent smeone from opening the door while the gas door is open. How can I remove the broken gas door & is it necessary to install the rod on the new gas door & reconnect it to the door locking mechanism?

Ask the local dealer to print you out the diagram of the release system from their parts catalog. Then, you'll have an idea how it goes back together.
Make sure you have the right parts! There might be a difference in parts from the two vans, as the rods and mechanism may differ between vehicles with and without the extra door(s).
