Honda cooling system

I have a 2003 Honda Civic LX with 23K miles I want to flush the cooling system can I use any good coolant or should I use only Honda fluid from the dealer?

Well, here's a discourse on the subject:

But, with only 23k miles on it, you are overkilling the preventive maintenance. I'm guessing the Honda product is probably good for 50-100k. Just keep the level up for another couple of years.

Here's a line from a dealer's site:\

120mths/120k miles & then every 60mths/60k miles - Replace Coolant

Don't know if that's the offical Honda requirment or not. Should be in your owner's manual maintenance schedule.

I agree that it may be too early to service the cooling system. When you do, you can use any antifreeze you want provided you completely flush out all of the old fluid. I recommend staying away from any Dex-cool type of product and favor using Zerex G-05.

Thank you for the info I will wait and go by the manual. When it's due I will use a good quality anti-freeze/coolant.

It's been 3 years since this car was built even though miles are low, fluids deteriorate over time anyways why don't you test the coolant ? cheap tester sold at your local autoparts. Good time to do it before summer if you're in a must-have-a/c area like me

coolant for Honda

You do not have to buy coolant from the Honda dealer but I sure would put in coolant that is approved by Honda for your year Honda (read the bottle.)
