could it be???
the temp needle on my 92 Chevy P/U just lays there. Is it a bad thermostat or could it be something else? Also while I'm replacing the thermostat ( if it is indeed bad) is there anything else I need to do while I'm there?
THanks for the info,

Sounds like a sending unit and/or gauge. to check thermostat while the engine is cold, take the radiator cap off, put a thermometer in the cap touching the water. Crank the engine up and if water immediatly starts circulating then the thermostat is stuck open (bad). If it takes a few seconds then starts flowing watch the temp on the thermo.. It should come up, if it comes up then the gauge should come up to. If the gauge doesn't corespond to the therm....Check sending unit and/or gauge.

thermostat
I replaced the thermostat and the needle still lays there. I checked the fuse and it looked good but I noticed when I removed it the temp guage rose a little while the other guages dropped. I replaced the fuse and the temp guage fell and the other guages returned to normal. Is this a sending unit problem? Will it hurt the engine to drive it?
Thanks

you and you alone can prevent forest fires!
I would recommend a sending unit swap out. NO this will not alter the vehicles performance. But, should something more series happen such as over-heating, there will be no way for you to know. Until, well smoke of course or the ever great feeling of your vehicle shutting down on the interstate.
