Dakota bumper replacement

I have to replace a front bumper on a 00 Dodge Dakota and have been told I should not do it because the airbag sensors are in the bumper and I could trigger them. Is this really a concern or can they be safely disabled for such a repair? (Perhaps I should by the manual).

tough question

I hate to stick my neck out and say it is OK and you get hurt but what I would do is look for were the sensors are they are clearley marked. I would not think they would be on the bumper but more back like maybe close to the radiatior.
Just look and see were they are you might have to look from the bottom of truck.
