fan clutch failure worst that could happen

wifes 1984 BMW 733i fan clutch is making a lot of noise . Im looking for a replacment but she still needs to drive it .

whats likley to happen if it goes completley ?

could the fan wind up taking out the raditor or doing other major damage ?

ok to dirve the car or should she park it untill we can get it fixed ?

It's not inconceivable for it to launch into the radiator, but I think before it got that bad it would have enough wobble to start banging into things like the fan shroud. I would park it; safest thing to do [on the other hand, from a professional point of view, breaking down and needing a tow works, too ]

false alarm , she ah ..failed to mention that she rear ended somebody yesterday and pushed that clasic beamer grille in .

I heard the noise when she came home yesterday and since it continued when she shut the motor off I assumed it was the fan free wheeling .

turns out its the ac fan in front of the radiator (cant see it but when we turn the ac off noise stops .

( tow Guy if we havent met yet Im sure we will some day

Where in north county but we do go down south from time to time son lives in north port

if you want to PM me contact info Ill pass your name on to my son and put you on cell phone speed dial )

I'm really sorry, mango, but I had to chuckle at that one. I'll pm you.
