Unhappy 700r4

tranni neutralizes when attempting to shift to 3rd gear. automatic transmission ,any ideas why it does this it will not shift into third even if trying to manually shift if you just go in drive like norm it will travel and shift fine until tying for 3rd gear than slips and over revs until it idles down than it will grab 2nd gear again

its in an 85' safari mini van the engine is new short block not rebuilt with just over 43,000 miles the tranni came out of an 89' astro . I know I know this shouldnt work however if u switch the electronic selenoids inside the tranni pan from the 89 and put in from 85 model it works great. it started this after i filled it with too much tranni fluid. please also keep in mind i drove it for almost a year with the switch of parts. engine is a 4.3 V6 tbr/bbl ""and tranni is 700r4e i believe"" reason i label it w/E is from info i've read on the net about the model to the year. it is certainly a 700R4 maybe "E"

You're sure it's not a 4L60E?

If third gear is air, this is not good. Chances are good of a failed internal component, such as a clutch pack, or a hard part.

We have a 700R4 in our Suburban. We recently had to replace the Throttle Cable. Anyone know of a sure fire way too set the cable? We are having trouble with the transmission shifting in and out at cruising speed. Take off and it shifts from one gear to another just fine, but when you let off the gas to coast or keep it at a steady speed, it will shift back down. We know the problem is with the cable, but have tried different ways to set it and it still isn't right. Anyone else have this problem and figured out a solution?
