Scratched car while parking

I have scratched paint off someone's car while I was parallel parking. I have left a note with my cell phone number and an apology under the wiper blade. I wonder if this is generally considered sufficient? Should I have called the police? I live in California, so the official limit is $500 in damages to call the police I think.

There were no dents, only paint scraped off the front-left corner of the bumper and fender. Not a significant area, more like a shallow scratch, although long enough, about 3-4 inches. The car I scratched is relatively old but we all know the body work can be as highly expensive as one wants it to be.

What else should I do? I made some photos of the guy's car on the spot just in case, so if the guy's a jerk, he won't pin too much on me. Personally, I would do nothing about such a scratch on my car, and his car is about the same condition and value as mine. Could someone offer an advice how to deal with this further? What to say to the guy if he demands too much? Should I involve insurance? Should I get his insurance if he wants to go through mine?

Thanks for any opinion on this. I apologize that this question is somewhat off topic but I got good advice here before.

I wouldn't worry about it until you need to. Frankly you went way beyond and you did the right thing. If there is a phone call then deal with it.
