bad rear axle bearing

bad rear axle bearing

i own a 2000 chevy silverado with 100,000 miles i just changed
the rear brake pads and i noticed play on the drivers side rear axle,
what coul be causing this bad axle bearings or somthing in the
differincial gear gone bad,what can i check to determine the
problem.

Is the slack when its moved up and down or in and out?

First check the oil level. Have you hauled anything heavy on any long distance trips? if the oil is low or driven straight while overloaded the bearing will get overloaded/hot and wear. If the oil gets even a little low it will not run out the axle housings to the bearing.
