Question Did I spend 2 Much $ 4 Car Repair?

Went 4 an oil chg and ended up with a $400 bill. Oil chg $13.99, Tune up $60.00; (4 cycl Plymouth Breeze); Lifetime Rear Brakes which included rear drum brakes and cylinder$185 and finally a Sep.Belt; $104.00. Oh also spent $16 for the air filter...Any thoughts? (By the way, the work needed 2b done, so I am pleased, but the costs? Thanks

Actually not too bad. As long as they didn't find problems that didn't exist you did pretty well. Oil change was cheap, brakes could have been much worse, air filter not bad at all. Tune up is just spark plugs these days, parts are cheap (most cars) but a fair amount of work to install (more in some, less in others) so $60 is very reasonable. Maybe a bit high on the belt, its a 5 minute job and not terribly expensive part. Overall not too shabby.

I second the motion. You paid someone professionally to do it and considering that...the way things cost today...not bad. Also, according to my math, it appears you came in UNDER $400. So if you say $379 or whatever, that sounds like a deal.

Not too bad I guess just be aware that lifetime rear brakes is only for the pads and does not include labor.(thet always get people that way ).

Also, "lifetime" in almost all cases means "one time free replacement" if you read the itty-bitty writing.

That would be a great price for around here

BTW, it's not worth the liability for any service place to open a hood for under $20, so really they are hoping to find other work that needs to be done

If the work needed to be done then that was a fine price

Seems okay to me

As a professional I know the value of services that others can do for me that I either can't do myself or that would take me so long to do poorly it is worth paying somebody else to do it. I wouldn't feel bad about what you paid.
