Exclamation A/C problem, 1997 Cougar 4.6L.

I have a 97 Cougar 4.6 liter, 89 K miles with an A/C problem. The A/C compressor appears to be cycling on and off about every 4 to six seconds. With the hood open and the A/C on, the cooling fan is running and I can hear the clutch engaging then disengaging. On the low pressure side I have 45 PSI as I checked with a gauge.

My Ford repair CD suggests the A/C cycling switch as a possible cause.

Any thoughts here?

Thanks,

Tony

cycling switch sounds like it is cycling as it should, most likely you have a leak and the system is low of refrigerant. To properly diagnose you need to use a set of manifold guages so both low and high side pressures can be taken. Anything less is a recipe for disaster. If you are using one of the death kits toss it in the trash and go invest in some real tools before you damage the system.

Agreed.

I will take it to a shop. Thanks!
