2001 Chrysler T&C Van AC problem

My son wrecked my van in January of 2005, estimate to repair $4850.00, total cost over $12,000.00. The problem is the AC is intermittent, when it works, it's loud enough that it sounds like transmission shifting. They put all new partsa on the van except when they replaced the compressor, they used one from a salvage yard.

The Chrysler Dealership did all the AC work, worked on it until July last year and it quit before fall. Being a old time AC & Refrigeration man, I believe there is trash in the system, I haven't been able to convince anyone of that.

So Does anyone have any ideas, if so Thanks, Bill

if the compressor is making alot of noise it probably isnt much good while it still may cool the van not sure why they would use a salvage yard compressor.
there may very well be some trash in the system its not uncommon you need to know why it quit working did the compressor fail, freon loss due to a leak, or other problem like bad expansion valve a decent a/c shop can flush the system and may even recomend replacing the condensor if the system is badly contaminated as excessivly high pressures will greatly shorten the life of any compressor installed.

Almost all the parts on the front of the van were replaced, including condensor, lines, a/c computer, and others including used compressor. The most it ever worked since the wreck is one month. Like I say, I do believe it's trash in the system, due to the severity of the wreck or the a/c compressor. Thanks bejay, Bill
