2002 Mazda Protege: Electronic Issues

New battery and a new alternator.

The charge from the alternator gets to the battery, yet the engine drains the battery and the car stalls after hours of driving. Is there a switch or relay that draws power (to use headlights, for example) from either the alternator or the battery if the alternator isn't producing power?

Check the batt. as they are only good for 4-5 years.

If the battery is bad enough, the alternator won't charge it, whether it is a dead short inside or some other issue. Does you battery have cells with water you can access to see if any have gone dry?
