Jeep does not start

I have recently had a problem with my 1990 jeep 6 cylender engine with automatic transmission starting. At first i thought it was the battery but the problem persisted. When I jiggle the transmission shifter, the car starts fine. Is there a switch in the transmission that might be causing this? if so where is it located?
Thank you all.

Thanks for the quick reply, what's the easiest way to get at it and every thing is pricey on these things.
Thanks
