Escort ticking transaxle

I replaced the clutch on my aunts car, now it makes a ticking sound that is equal to the speed of the car. the brakes are good, I thought it was the driver side half shaft so I replaced that, but I was wrong, ticking still there. The clutch was real bad when she brought it in, car wouldn't go over 30 mph, so I didn't drive it before I worked on it, don't know if the ticking was there before. I put dowels in the drive shaft holes when I pulled them. Any ideas whats might be going on?

Does the car make a sound when you are not moving. Give it a good Rev while it is in neutral. The hold the clutch in and give it a good rev then report back if you heard the sound.

Replacing parts that aren't the problem is not only costly (unless you figure they are soon to go anyway...but can be rather deflating to ones ego.
