new van-new noises?

Just posting again because we just bought a 2000 chrysler town and country van with 3.8l engine, automatic trans. and there is another noise I am not use to hearing in other vehicles, but want to make sure it is not a problem in this one. when you turn the vehicle on and shift from park to drive there is a slight whine and then clicking sound as the tranny engages ( noise lasts about a second or two). sounds like it is coming from underneath the vehicle near the driver. you also hear this same noise when driving along and you start coming to a stop at a light. It alsmost seems like it is happening at the last step when the tranny is shifting down to first gear when coming to a stop. It almost sounds like an electric switch of some sort engaging and disengaging. This could be normal. Thanks
