How to replace Universal joints?

I've had loud squeaking on the right side of the pickup for a month now. I have an 84 Ford F-150 pickup. I picked up two universal joints yesterday, front and back..but am not sure on how to replace them. I can't find a diagram or help online. Can anyone help??

Autozone hot to rplace a u-joint

The link above shows using a vice to press the joint in and out. I think autozone also loans a u-joint press as well.

One thing to be very cautious of; when installing the caps, be sure that all the needle bearings are standing up and do not knock any of them over while installing the cap. If you do, the cap will not go all the way on and you may very well end up damaging the joint trying to do so.

Both links were helpful. The front universal joint was fine..but when I took the back one off,it crumbled in my hands. Good thing I was replacing it! There were two "extra" half moon pieces that I had no clue what to do with,in the bag with the new parts. The main pieces fit in fine..and on a test run,the squeaking noise is gone. Only thing is...now there's a new noise!

Many u-joints have both type of clips included one is a c- looking clip the other is a circle with the ends bent inward with a funny bend on one of them additionally. Use the appropriate one, throw out the other.

So now, what is the new noise???

I don't know to describe it. It isn't a loud squeaking noise like before..but it's noticeable. I'm going to run it a few days and see what happens. I'm definitely keeping ahold of this site though..I'm replacing parts on this old truck about once a month and you all have been a huge help. I've been trying to find a good site on repairs for my old bike, and haven't lucked out like this. Thanks ya'll.
