My truck is stuck in 4wd
Hi 1997 gmc Sonoma club cab truck 4wd 6 cyllinders, 262w 4.3l sfi. Auto. transmission. I was hauling a small trailor, I put it in 4wd, to go up a hill, the tranny started smoking so i pulled over to cool down. now my truck is stuck in 4wd, I just changed tranny filter gasket. Also the battery is dead aswell. I barely made it home. I'm sure its all connected. Any ideas on what to do???? I need help.

The transfer case is the guy you want to be messing with. Try changing the fluid the in that and hope for luck.
I know those aren't the greatest trucks to tow anything but what were you pulling lol. You may want to get an aftermarket tranny cooler to put in series with your radiator cooled tranny lines. you can pick up after market tranny coolers for around $40 for a 1ton vehicle
