Brake Problem?

Hello i have a 1996 Ford Probe GT, about three days ago i started having a problem... i think. What happens is that when i press on the brakes hard, the brake light on the dashboard turns on, the one that turns on when the hand brake is on. It then turns off when i let go of the brakes. I have checked the brake fluid, and it is at the correct level. Any ideas???

check brake hoses for a small leak you had to add fluid so you may have a pin hole leak. or else you could need a proportioning valve, or an internernal leak in the master

I didn't add any fluid, it was already at the correct level.

Because this happens when you brake hard, it sounds like a fluid/sensor issue. Is the fluid at the min mark? or at the max mark? You could have air in the system as well, but im betting on a malfunctioning sensor. How hard do you have to brake to get it to do this? Do the brakes feel any different than before this started occuring?
Hope this is helpful to ya,
Billy

I thought about the sensor being bad but they way its in the system doesn't fit good, thought about air to but he has not complaints of brake pedal feel.

I would start with the brake fluid level switch. Disconnect the connector to the switch and measure between the terminals of the switch with an ohm meter.

Brake Fluid Level Below MIN = Resistance Less than 600 ohms
Brake Fluid LEvel Above MIN = Resistance Greater than 10,000 ohms

If you get readings not within those specifications, replace the switch.
