Define stops cooling. Is the air coming out the same temperature as the outside? Hotter? just a bit cooler?

Is the compressor clutch still engaged? if you dont know, please check, this is important.

After it stops cooling, does it work again the next day when you start driving?

That is a typical symptom of low freon. You probably do have a leak. Get it repaired; don't use one of those 'miracle' stop-leak products. They will create more problems than you already have.

Yeah, I would also suspect low freon. As the system runs and pulls freon out of the low side, the pressure eventually drops too low and the cutout switch stops it. Then after you park and it has time to even out, there is enough low side pressure to keep the low-side switch from cutting out. I would recommend that you check both the high and low side pressures with a manifold guage set.

Dnauls - Thanks for posting back with the outcome of your situation, which sheds more light for us reading. Glad to hear your repair was minor.
