Question Transmission Stuck in Drive!

I have an '89 Ford Crown Victoria, 5 liter engine overdrive transmission, that has been in a demolition derby 3 times. On it's third run, it got stuck in the mud and now in all gears (park included) it will lunge forward and continue to try to move foward unless the brake is pressed. I want to know if there is a way to fix this by opening it up, or if I should go ahead and replace it with my spare?

Are you sure the shift cable is intact? In other words, you may be moving the shift lever, but the cable isn't moving the actuator on the side of the transmission.
