replacing a torsion bar on 2001 frontier
Anybody ever had to replace a torsion bar on a Nissan frontier? I have one that broke and am woundering how involved its replacement is. I would do it myself if I knew it was something I could handle. It looks like it just has two 19 mm nuts holding it to the Aframe, but I don't see how it is removed from the frame at the adjustment end.

The replacement is very involved and is something better left to professionals with the proper equipment and specifications. It is also a dangerous operation as the torsion bar is under some extreme twisting forces. The dealer should charge you around 1.8 hours labor for this repair...unless you bent or messed something up when you broke yours. You may also need an alignment after repair.

Mine is under no presure as it broke. The adjustment bolt can be rotated by hand back and forth about two inches without losening anything up. It is just a swap out job as the vehicle was parked when it let go. I drove the truck the 7 miles home and parked it. I suspect that the factory torsion bar was defective as I live in a city and this truck has never been off of the pavement.

I've given you my best advice...it is far too complicated of a procedure to detail in an online forum because it involves diagrams, measurement angles, etc... If you are still interested in attempting to do this repair yourself, you can pick up a Chilton's repair manual that should detail the procedure to you. You can get them at most auto parts retailers.

there is directions here that can help its not that bad of a procedure.
You just have to make sure the ride height from the left to right are even.

Thanks Snuckers for the info!!! The new factory bar ran 70.00 and the swap took 45 minutes. The alignment was perfect when I was done and I saved 380.00 off of what the dealer wanted to do the job.
