'05 Corolla - Maintenance Needed light

I'm asking this question for my parents who recently purchased this car used. The light comes on and they determine from the manual that the oil needs to be changed. Dad changes the oil. He has always been one to perform maintenance himself and would sooner die than have a dealership change oil. The problem is that after changing the oil, the light stays on.

Any way to get this light to shut off, aside from buying some expensive diagnostic repair tool or removing the lightbulb?

try this

To reset the maintenance light, with the car turned off, push and hold the trip meter button while turning on the ignition. Think you have to hold it like 5 seconds.
It is in the maintenance book or you can do a Google search
