lumina ac

97 lumina w/ 3.1l v-6

while climbing very steep hills and passing on 2-lane highways the ac blows out at feet. the air is still cold but comes out where heat normally does. at the top of the hill or after the pass the air resumes coming out dash vents.

I suspect some vacuum problem. Any ideas on where to start. the car runs fine otherwise.

You could have a leak in any of the lines and generally not notice any drivability issues, that would cause the symptoms. A lot of these GM vehicles have a "vacuum accumulator" that's nothing more than a large round plastic ball with a single connection for a vacuum line. The accumulator is meant to "store" vacuum for when the engine supply drops. If the hose is disconnected or the accumulator missing you could also get the same symptoms you are getting.
