Question stalling 93 dodge van

i have a 93 dodge caravan. that for some reason will run fine for a short period of time then all of a sudden it just dies acts like it is out of gas. after it dies it will not restart unless you turn the ignition key completly off. if you dont turn off key it just cranks but if you turn off key and then turn it back on you can hear the fuel pump run then it starts right back up then goes for a short distance and does it again. it always restarts after you turn off key. is there some kind of relay or something that tells the fuel pump when to run because i think that it is not kicking in and telling the fuel pump when to cycle to maintain fuel pressure. would appreciate any and all help with this thanks

the fuel pump runs whenever the computer sees an RPM signal from the ignition system...so during cranking and then when the engine starts up, the fuel pump will be commanded on. you...or someone needs to make the problem happen and then be ready to test for loss of fuel pressure due to an intermittant electrical problem, loss of injector control or loss of spark from the ignition.

a test lamp or better yet, a digital volt meter will help with the first two possibilities...a spark tester would be used for the last possibility.
