fuel pump

does the length of time of the the humming sound when fuel pump is first activated indicate the condition of the fuel pump?

I don't know a lot about elec fuel pumps but it shouldn't take the pump more than a few seconds to recharge the fuel line. If the pump runs longer I would think it would be losing pressure somewhere in the fuel system.

I would guess most run from 1-3 seconds on key-on. If the pump was worn (or there were other problems) that made the pump run, let's just say for argument sake, 10 sec's, 20 sec's, whatever; I think the problem would show up with other symptoms, i.e. hard starting, stalling, etc.
