84 BMW , brake light issues

84 bmw 733i no brake lights , I thought it was probably the swtich but , switch is good . I tried a new switch and same isssues .

two wires to the switch , when I put a meter on them disconected from the brake switch I get 12 volts on one and 10 volts on the other .

I would expect only one to have voltage in and the other to take it out and light the brake light .

Im thinking of just running a new wire to the trunk to power the brake lights

I realize the brake light warning wouldnt work and cruise controll wouldnt . but Im just looking for a cheap fix to keep the car on the road .

any reason why this wouldnt work ?

BMW brake lights

Saw your post. I own an 84 533i.
A common problem is for the sockets and or the bulbs to get corrosion and then the bulbs don't make contact and no lights and no crusie control since the crusie control circuit is run through the taillights.
Clean the bulbs and sockets with some contact cleaner (Radio shack or parts store) or get new bulbs. Put some grease like bearing grease or even some vasalene on the bulbs and this will slow down or prevent the future corrosion process.
