changing motor out

can anyone give me some advice on a 99 mercury cougar v6 2.4 liter automatic front wheel drive. my daughter was rear ended & insurance totaled car & what i would like to do is change the motor out to a 88 ford ranger 4 cylnder 2.3 liter standard shift.can this be done with out a lot of trouble.the car will crank up & drive but back end is mashed way in.no way to drive on road.
any help would be apprecated.thanks--mccoy

Just a wild guess, but I don't think it's do-able. For starters I think you would have electronic problems, i.e. computer. There's probably a dozen other reasons why it won't work; one of the Ford pro's will probably expound on the question.

Talking yeah

Lot of work friend. A bit of fabrication is involved. Just the fact that you stepping from new to old is a leap. Unless the motor has 30,000 miles or less it's not worth the hassle. You'll spend as much in time and money as you can purchasing a reman for your 88.
