I don't know the specifics on your particular vehicle, but I can tell you that for the most part heater core replacement involves dismantling a good portion of the dashboard on most cars. It is generally not DIY unless you are an intermediate or better diy-er. Even experts often take that job and pay someone else to do it.

Under the dash against the firewall and a pain in the arse. You have to remove a whole lot of important things. If its not something you have need to replace now you can bypass the Core by disconnecting the two hoses on the firewall and joining them together until you have time to take it to the shop. Everytime I do a core I think of paying someone else. I'd almost rather change a head gasket on a thunderbird.
