Cleaning battery cables improve starting?

My car has been slow to turn over last couple of days. The battery doesn't seem to have a full charge.

I noticed some crud buildup on the battery cables, could it be something as simple as cleaning them?

yes

Yes clean those connections use a wire brush or if you have posts on top they sell special cleaner brush. It might be other problems but it is a good start and has to be done anyway. How old is battery? 4 years is about all the life you get out of todays batterys.

If it still starts slow after cleaning the connections, the crud may have worked itself inside the insulation which would require replacing the cables. Peel a little insulation back to check if necessary.
