Rear Brake Drums

I havn't taken brake drums off in a long time, got both rears on 2002 Dakota, 2 wheel drive, lock up & had to tow it to a mechanic. I want to get these drums off an turn them, which the mechanic neglected to do as requested.
Question-- When at rear of truck, Do the adjusting stars turn counter clockwise driver side, and clockwise passenger side to retract brake shoes?? Don't want to lock them up again.
Never recall having trouble releasing them before.

Thanks in advance for any input..

Don't know if an '02 dakota has something other than the standard type adjuster, but generally the direction that it will move with just an adjuster tool or screwdriver (click-click-click) is tightening. You should have to insert a second tool (long narrow screwdriver or similar) in first to push the adjuster arm off of the star wheel in order to turn it in the loosening direction.
