1991 Taurus front end and water pump

Hi,
I have a couple of problems with my Taurus 3.8l. I need to replace the left front tie rod end (I would take it in for alignment afterward) and the water pump. I was thinking of doing these myself, though I would probably need to buy a manual first to make sure I do things in the right order.

My question is...are these repairs exceptionally hard? Do I need any special tools? I changed the water pump on a Ford Escort one time that required removing the timing belt and I don't want to get in to something like that again. Thanks for your help.

Well, your water pump is external, unlike those that are run off the timing belt. It's not a lot of fun because the space between the engine and the side of the engine compartment is pretty tight. The procedure is on this page:

Thanks for the link! You wouldn't happen to know if the front end part is called something besides a tie rod end? I don't see that listed on the web site you gave me. Maybe it's part of an assembly?
