Help fixing tie rod ends

Help fixing tie rod ends

i have a 1995 saturn sc2; 4-116; 1.9L SOHC

i need my left and right outer tie rod ends replaced.

is this a hard job? expensive? i don't know much about cars. need a little advice.

Pretty easy job, but takes a little precision so that the new ends are close enough to the correct position to safety drive the car someplace to have the alignment done afterwards. Also it sometimes requires a special tool.

The special tool shown isn't always necessary. Somtimes a good smack with a hammer on the end of the threaded portion, after removing the cotter pin and nut, will pop it loose from the steering knuckle.

Actually if you whack the steering arm where the tie rod end goes through, it will be easier than whacking the threaded end. (at least in my experience). Been doing it this way for 30+ years.
