Question While Changing Transmisson Fluid

I was under the car further than for an oil change. It is a 2001 Ford Taurus, and I noticed a place on the frame, drivers side, that looks to have been welded. It has slag stuck on the frame, look like a hole was cut in frame. It doesn't look like anything on the otherside of the frame. Any ideas? Thanks, Bill

I wouldn't worry about it unless that hole or previous hole was on a bend. If it's on the face (flat part) frame, it shouldn't do any harm. There are countless holes drilled into the frame to mount components. You can also check CarFax.com and see if it has been in a previously "reported" accident. You should be fine though. Also, usually welds are stronger then the metal they are welding too.

We bought it new, so didn't run carfax then, may run it now. The hole is not drilled, it is a rectangle, 3" by about 5 "'s. Looks very odd. Bill
