Need help with 2 problems on a Lincoln

Lincoln Town Car 1990:

Heater blows ice cold air, there is anti freeze. What should I do?

When depressing the gas pedal, the engine sometimes revs instead of downshifting, like the gears are slipping. What should I do?

I am trying to avoid a repair bill due to a rotten financial situation. I'm no mechanic, but I'm no moron either. I would appreciate help.

Thank You!

Yes, check the thermostat

Also, you can try and flush the heater core out by disconnecting the two radiator lines going to the heater core behind the dash. (disconnect on engine side).

Also, there is a mixing valve within your dashboard that may be broken. This valve opens up to allow the hot air in.

Regarding your transmission:
Check all your vacuum hoses in the engine bay to make sure they are not broke, cracked, missing, etc. Majority of transmission issues are actually engine troubles.
