Exclamation 1994 Ranger Freeze Plug Leaks

Hi,

Ive got a 1994 Ford Ranger 4.0 liter 4x4, My problem is that the freeze plug just below the spark plug for cylinder #1 is leaking coolant. Coolant leaks from the truck when park and when driving. I havent taken my truck to the show yet, and i havent done anything about this problem other the topping off the coolant level. What can i do to help fix my problem?

Thank You,

Matt

The only fix is to punch the old plug out and install a new one. I don't think a JB Weld type repair will hold up to the heat.

Procedures:

Drain the complete cooling system and engine block.

Drill or punch a hole in the center of the freeze plug and pull it out from the engine block with a slide hammer or equivalent. Note stay away from the freeze plug location when working, as coolant will flow from the engine block when the plug is removed.

Check the bore for roughness or burrs. If the bore is damaged, hone it and use an oversized freeze plug.

Coat the new freeze plug with sealer and drive into the correct position.

Refill the cooling system. Start engine and check for coolant leaks.
