94 Jimmy Squeeling when put in reverse
I have a 1994 GMC Jimmy SLT 4x4 4.6L When it is put in reverse and starts to move there is a squeeling / squeeky sound on the front drivers side wheel. It doesnt happen any other time, just reversing in parking lots and out of the driveway etc. Whilst driving it handles fine, started about a week ago.
Tires are good about 2 years old Michelins
Any ideas on what it may be?
Thanks

Replace your front pads and get the rotors turned. This happens for some reason when the pad(s) are getting unequal wear. Inspect your wear down tab on the brake calipers as well.

Thanks for your imput, being a woman lol I will have to take it to somewhere that checks your brakes for free. I had them done just found the receipt a year ago July,(05) rotors shoes and spring kits are listed on the invoice, do you think it could still be that?

It sure could be. I've seen brakes go out after a few months of replacement. Alot of these brakes places will replace the pads with these "Lifetime Warranty" brake pads. These pads are absolute junk. There's a reason why they are cheap and come with a warranty like that. If they due find that the pads are the issue with your vehicle, spend the extra money and get a good pair of brake pads. It will be well worth it.

Finally a diagnosis
Well much to my dismay I found out what some of the problems are, the truck needs, upper and lower ball joints, tie rod - link, idle arm on drivers side, brakes and one other thing that i cant remember, just wanted to post back with diagnosis, not sure if i will fix it or not due to costs.

$1900? Holy crap. They are taking you for a ride. Just get your brakes fixed. I don't see how your tie rods have anything to do with your brakes squelling?

Thanks........
I will have them grease the front end tomorrow when i take it in for an oil change, usually this is part of the package, I faithfully change the oil every 5,000km. Then have it re-checked.
Will post back......
Thanks again.
P.S The $1900 included $760 labour charge also.

? alignments
Finally got the work done, had upper and lower ball joints replaced, idle arm, tie rod and pitman arm (something to do with steering) the brakes were ok aparently the ball joints had no grease and rubber on drivers side was completely split, nipples would not take any grease, I called the shop where i usually take it every 5,000km for oil change and mentioned it as they are supposed to do that with the maintenance package during an oil and filter change, the owner was not impressed and wants me to bring in the old ball joints for him to see, they are willing to cover some of the cost and free oil change etc.
I had truck aligned today and my question is.......should the steering wheel be perfectly straight? My friend drove it home and said sometimes it is and sometimes not pending on the road, the alignment was out of course but cost me $78 to have it done. The wheel was not straight before i took it for alignment?
Thanks

Yes, your wheel should be straight and that car should drive straight. If you have to hold the wheel a little off center to keep the vehicle in line, then you need an alignment/camber/tow adjustment. These alignment shops are supposed to keep your wheel prefectly centered and make the alignment off of that to bring it to manufacturer specs. If it feels like it's not, bring it back. Some types of roads will make it feel like you are misaligned, when in fact, you are fine. The tires will grip a groove in the road and start to pull the vehicle to one side.
