transmission shifts funny
I have a '90 Jeep Cherokee 2wd, 4.0l, automatic transmission that sometimes takes too long to shift between gears. I can hear a high pitched whine after it warms up good. The fluid looks good, disconnecting a vacuum line makes the engine idle faster. It may be coincidence, but I didn't have this problem until I did a pretty thorough job of cleaning the engine. Vacuum modulator maybe? and where is it.

Thats kinda what it sounds like to me. Maybe you managed to crimp the vacuum line when you cleaned the engine. Is it a rubber line all the way to the tranny? If so thats a cheap and easy thing to do. What tranny does it have?

I'm not sure of the model name of the tranny but it is a 4 speed with a comfort/power switch on the dash. I'm not seeing a vacuum line only 2 wires, dipstick tube, shift linkage and cooler lines.
