Smile 81 Nissan Maxima diesel Brakes

I need help on how to repair my vehicles brakes I do not have the original book and not sure what type of brakes they are and if I can repair them myself
One sounds like it is starting to rub a bit from time to time and do not want to ruin the rotors can any one help me?

You will have front disk brakes, and rear drum brakes most likely. Is this noise coming from the front? If so, pads are pretty easy to change out yourself. It requires you to remove the tires (obviously) and removing 2 10mm bolts that hold the bracket onto the caliper. Pads will just pop out with your fingers. Clean your calipers with brake cleaner. Get a medium sized C-clamp and remove the master cylinder cover (where you add fluid), and depress the caliper piston back into the caliper. Install new pads.

It might be a good idea to have your rotors checked, and have them turned if required. It's a cheap procedure.
