Question '86 mercury sable heater core

how difficult is it to replace the heater core in the '86 sable and has anyone any idea what it should reasonably cost to have done in a shop in the nashville area? Is it accesible enough that I could do it myself?

It can be a pain in the butt. I requires youto remove the glovebox and sometimes the dashboard. It's located behind the glovebox. Find where the two heater core hoses come in through the firewall. The core will be closely behind that within the car. Usually you have to remove the airbox which it is mounted in. Figure about $40-55/hr for a mechanic, and about...3-5 hrs of work time.

It is a major pain in the ...well, I'm sure you understand.

try this url. if it works, it describles how to remove the dash and such (required)

book labo time (with a/c, presumably your has it,. I've never seen one without) is 8.8 hours.

If you can still find somebody for $40-$55/ hr, I would either grab them or be very suspicious of their shop. I have seen $70/hour for a couple years around my area.
