94 Ford Explorer Question

I have a 94 Ford Explorer that won't shift into overdrive after the engine warms up. On cold days this may take 50 to 100 miles. On hot days, 10 to 20 miles. The problem starts with the car shifting in and out of overdrive at highway speeds (55 - 65mph). After a while it just will not shift into overdrive at all. Also, when this occurs the cruise control will not work. From a dead stop the tranmission shifts fine.

Throttle Position Sensor? Vacuum line?

Thanks for any help.

It may be the transmission speed sensor, or any of those things you named. Does your speedo work ok?

Yes - the speedometer seems fine and it appears to track well with the tach.

Thanks for the input -
