I have noticed black junk on the floor of my garage from where the exhaust pipe is on my Jimmy. What could be causing it? Also I have noticed that it is idling very rough. Is it related to the black junk?

The "black junk" is probably caused by an overly rich fuel/air mixture or at least a system that's not completely burning a correct one.

The former could be caused by a number of things, but the one that comes to mind first is an oxygen sensor.

The latter could be caused by insufficient ignition which would point toward coil, distributor, plugs, plug wires.

If the problem only shows at cold engine start up the engine temp sensor could be at fault.

First I would do a complete tuneup to include air filter and pvc valve. If you still have the problem I would get the codes pulled on it to see if a fault shows up with one of the sensors.

I believe the guys at Autozone do that for free.

Hope this helps,

Bob

You'll have to be more specific about that blacnk junk. Does it smell like oil?

Idling rough? What have you done to remedy this? I.E. change spark plugs and wires, air filter, fuel filter, etc.
