Should take a few hours. You should not need any special tools. You will need your basic sockets and wrenches. Just remember to remove all the old gasket so the surface is CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN. Make sure you protect your motor from foreign depris when removing the cover.

20 year old Honda.....OK.............How many miles on the engine?????

Changing the gasket will take you a day.........You're gonna want to change the timing belt (it'll be off) water pump (because you're gonna expose it and I'm assuming we had an overheat issue).......

The last thought i would put in your mind is to have the head checked by a machine shop for leaks/valve condition and true.

The operation you're about to perform is somewhat complicated. When you reassemble, you want to make sure everything's right cause you won't feel like going back in.......

Second all of wrench's suggestions. Do not skip having the head checked; a lot of work doing the gasket just to find out afterwards the head is warped or cracked.
